Stems, leaves, and flowers usu­ally in higher part of size ranges for species; corollas usually medium to deep blue with dorsal greenish to dark purple lines adaxially on and below the lobes, occasionally paler, usually 35–55 mm.


Phenology: Flowering late summer–fall.
Habitat: Wet mountain meadows.
Elevation: 1200–2200 m.

Discussion

There is a record of a hybrid of var. newberryi with Gentiana calycosa.
