Plants shortly caulescent. Racemes 6–16(–18)-flowered. Legumes lunately curved, 11–19 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jun.
Habitat: Mixed desert shrub and pinyon-juniper communities, on rimrock on sandy substrates.
Elevation: 1100–1900 m.

Discussion

Variety desperatus occurs in Apache, Coconino, and Navajo counties in northeastern Arizona, Delta and Mesa counties in west-central Colorado, San Juan County in northwestern New Mexico, and Emery, Garfield, Grand, Kane, San Juan, and Washington coun­ties in southeastern Utah.
