Plants (15–)25–35(–40) cm; habit ± compact. Herbage tomentose, hairs sometimes whitish. Leaf blades narrowly elliptic, ± conduplicate, base lobed, lobes 4–11 mm. Flowers: corolla 35–47(–53) mm; stamens 21–26 mm.
Phenology: Flowering May–Aug.
Habitat: Clay-loam, shale barrens.
