Stems erect, yellowish green, 15–23 cm. Flowers: calyx lobed nearly to base, lobes all distinct nearly to base, 1–1.5 × 0.3–1 mm; corolla 2–3.4 mm, lobed 0.6–0.8 times its length; anthers yellow, 0.4–0.5 mm, apex obtuse or obscurely mucronate.


Phenology: Flowering fall.
Habitat: Around seeps on wooded slopes, stream banks, often in clumps of moss.
Elevation: 20–100 m.

Discussion

Subspecies texana is endemic to eastern Texas and northern Louisiana, occurring mostly in the Piney Woods region.
