Shrubs [lianas]. Stems erect, [scrambling or twining]. Leaf blades lanceolate, ± orbiculate, or ovate, 70–250+ × 40–170 mm, base cordate or ± truncate, surfaces puberulent to gla­brate. Peduncles puberulent. Flowers: sepals ± orbicu­late, 3–7 mm, chartaceous or coriaceous, apex rounded; corolla usually lavender or red-purple, sometimes white, throat darker, funnelform, 40–90 mm. 2n = 30.


Phenology: Flowering Jan–Nov.
Habitat: Marshy sites, swamps.
Elevation: 0–1000 m.

Distribution

Introduced; Fla., Tex., Mexico, West Indies, Central America, South America, introduced also in Asia.
