Plants (10–)15–35(–40) cm; habit ± compact. Herbage tomentose, hairs sometimes whitish. Leaf blades elliptic, ± conduplicate, base usually lobed, lobes to 5(–6) mm, some­times cuneate. Flowers: corolla (38–)43–59(–64) mm; stamens (21–)23–31 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Aug.
Habitat: Alluvial gravel, glacial till, dry birch or coniferous woodlands, prairie grasslands, sandy soils.
