Panicles narrow; branches straight, appressed. Glumes green or pale.

Colo., Utah, N.Mex., Tex., Kans., Ariz.

Discussion

Melica porteri var. porteri grows from northern Colorado to Arizona and central Texas, and south to the Sierra Madre Occidental, Mexico.
