Habitat: Coastal bluffs, hillsides, grasslands, desert washes and flats, roadsides
Elevation: 0-1300 m

Discussion

Variety arborea, which has capsules intermediate in shape between vars. angustata and globosa, is found throughout most of the species range; it is uncommon in Baja California and absent in the northern part of the range of the species.
