Distal cauline leaves short-petiolate or sessile, base tapered or truncate. Thyrses: peduncles and pedicels glandular-pubescent, rarely glabrous. Flowers: calyx lobes glandular-pubescent, rarely glabrous; corolla glandular-pubescent internally abaxially; pollen sacs explanate, sutures smooth; staminode 9–11 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Feb–Jun.
Habitat: Rocky to sandy slopes, pinyon-juniper woodlands, scrub, chaparral.
Elevation: 200–1500 m.
Distribution
Calif., Mexico (Baja California).
Discussion
In the flora area, var. clevelandii is known from southern California.
