Involucres narrowly obconic, 2–3 mm diam. Disc florets 7–13. Cypselae evenly strigose, hairs not obscuring faces; pappi of continuous or scaly crowns less than 0.1 mm. 2n = 8, 10, 16.
Phenology: Flowering Jul–Sep(–Oct).
Habitat: Rocky prairies, grasslands, roadsides, over clays and loams, less commonly sand
Elevation: 0–700 m
Distribution
Ark., Ill., La., Mo., Okla., Tex., Mexico (Coahuila, where rare).
