Stems retrorsely hairy. Leaves: axillary fascicles present, sometimes absent; cauline 15–45 × 0.5–4 mm. Thyrses: axis retrorsely hairy. Flowers: calyx lobes ovate to lanceolate.


Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Grasslands, chaparral, forest openings.
Elevation: 50–1700 m.

Discussion

Variety australis occurs in west-central and southwestern California from Colusa County to San Diego County.
