Sporangia containing 32 spores; spores averaging 72–86 µm diam. n = 2n = 116, apogamous.


Phenology: Sporulating summer–fall.
Habitat: Rocky slopes and cliffs, favoring granite, quartzite, and other noncalcareous substrates, occasionally found on limestone
Elevation: 600–1200 m
