Stems to 8(–20) cm or almost absent, densely tomentose or ± villous, hairs brown. Leaf blades broadly triangular, base lobed, lobes well developed, 1–3-pointed, margins undulate or not, apex acute. Bracts lanceolate to broadly ovate, 8–17 × 5–11 mm. Flowers: sepals glabrous or medially strigose; corolla 27–53 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jun.
Habitat: Chaparral, grassy, rocky sites, woodlands.
Elevation: 100–900 m.
Discussion
Subspecies oxyphylla intergrades with subsp. collina.
