Leaves 15–50(–60) × 5–12 mm, blade lanceolate to oblanceolate or elliptic, margins entire, serrate, or dentate, rarely sharply serrate or dentate. Flowers: corolla 28–40 mm. 2n = 16.


Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Rock outcrops, gravelly slopes, forest openings, roadcuts.
Elevation: 300–3000 m.

Distribution

B.C., Idaho, Mont., Oreg., Wash., Wyo.

Discussion

Variety fruticosus is known from the Cascade Range, Columbia Plateau, and southern part of the Northern Rocky Mountains, from southern British Columbia, through much of Washington, Idaho, and Oregon to southwestern Montana and northwestern Wyoming.
