Shrubs or trees. Leaves cauline; stipules present. Flowers: carpels 1–150, distinct, free, styles distinct; ovule 1. Fruits achenes or aggregated achenes; styles persistent, elongate, usually plumose.

Discussion

The subfamily consists of a single tribe.
