Stems (5–)10–15(–30) cm. Heads 1(–2), held well beyond basal leaves. Involucres 4.5–6.5 × (10–)12–14(–17) mm. Phyllaries moderately to densely villous (hairs mostly 1–2 mm), sometimes sparsely minutely glandular. Rays: laminae (5–)6–8. Disc corollas 2.5–3.5 mm. Cypselae 1.7–2.2 mm; pappi of 16–26 bristles 2.5–3.5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Aug.
Habitat: Meadows and open places, commonly in lodgepole pine woodland, sagebrush
Elevation: (1500–)1800–3000 m
