Leaf blades orbiculate to broadly ovate, 1–6(–8) cm wide, base truncate to slightly atten­uate, margins dentate, sinuate, or entire. Pedicels 15–60 mm in fruit. Corollas: limbs reflexed when fully open. Fruiting caly­ces 15–30 × 10–20 mm. 2n = 24.


Phenology: Flowering year-round in areas without frost.
Habitat: Prairies, fields, roadsides, disturbed habitats.
Elevation: 100–1500 m.

Distribution

Ala., Ark., Kans., La., Mo., N.Mex., Okla., Tex., Mexico.

Discussion

In Mexico, var. cinerascens is widespread in central and eastern regions south to Yucatán.
