Flowers: sepals grayish or purplish; stigmas dark gray. Capsules relatively thin-walled, translucent. 2n = 30.


Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jun.
Habitat: Sandy, rocky, sometimes calcareous soils.
Elevation: 200–1600 m.

Discussion

Variety filifolium occurs in southeastern New Mexico, central and western Texas, and adjacent Mexico.
