Stems (20–)30–60 cm. Leaves: basal axils ± densely tomentose, terminal lobes 3–15 mm; cauline 0–3. Heads 3–8. Peduncles 2–12 cm. Phyllaries 6–10 mm. Florets 20–70+; corollas yellowish or whitish, 4–6 mm, throats 2–3 mm, lengths (2.2–)3–8 times lobes; anthers 3–3.5 mm. Cypselae 5–6 mm, hairs 1–2 mm; pappi 1.2–2.5 mm. 2n = 34, 68.
Phenology: Flowering May–Sep.
Habitat: Sands, clays, rocks (limestones, schists, volcanics)
Elevation: 1500–2700 m
Distribution
Ariz., Calif., Nev., N.Mex., Utah, Mexico (Baja California).
