Annuals foul smelling. Stems erect or arching, puberulent, hairs glandular and eglandular. Leaves opposite proximally, opposite to subopposite distally. Inflorescences terminal, racemes [axillary, flowers solitary]. Pedicels often without paired nectaries at base; bracteoles present or absent. Flowers: calyx cupulate, lobes narrowly triangular; corolla purple to white; staminode 0(or 1), cylindric; style base not persistent. Capsules flattened, style base not enlarged, with 2, subapical horns. Seeds [20–]30–50, black [to brown], obovoid to pyriform, wings absent. x = 16.
