Plants usually pubescent, rarely glabrescent, on stems distally and raceme rachis, trichomes branched, subappressed, these sometimes mixed with simple ones.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Alkaline flats, plains, meadows, brushy hillsides, alpine areas, foothills, mountain slopes, ridges, dry knolls, grassy areas
Elevation: 1000-3600 m
Distribution
Alta., Sask., Calif., Colo., Idaho, Mont., Nev., Utah, Wyo.
Discussion
Apart from its distribution in Wyoming, subsp. virgata appears to be limited to counties in California (Inyo, Mono), Colorado (Eagle, Gunnison, Park), Idaho (Butte, Clark), Montana (Beaverhead, Phillips), Nevada (Esmeralda, Nye), and Utah (Dagget, Wasatch).
