Stems densely hairy in proximal 1/2, glabrous or sparsely hairy in distal 1/2. Leaf blades: basal sinus incisions absent or, sometimes, relatively short, abaxial surface usually glabrous, nerves usually glabrous proximally, sometimes hairy throughout, adaxial sparsely to densely hairy throughout or on folds only. Inflorescences: primary branches and peduncles usually glabrous. Pedicels usually glabrous, rarely some of the proximal hairy. Flowers: hypanthium usually sparsely hairy, sometimes glabrous.
Phenology: Flowering late Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Moist meadows, herb slopes, often near seashores
Elevation: 0–700 m
Distribution
Greenland, St. Pierre and Miquelon, N.B., Nfld. and Labr., N.S., Ont., Que., Wyo., Europe.
Discussion
Subspecies filicaulis is introduced in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Wyoming; it may be introduced also in parts of Newfoundland.
