Perennials, 60–90+ cm. Aerial nodes proximal to first peduncle usually (5–)6–12+, distalmost 1–3 internodes 4–12 cm. Leaves: mostly cauline on proximal 1/2–2/3 of plant heights; petioles 0–35+ mm; blades usually simple, rarely with 1(–3+) lateral lobes, simple blades or terminal lobes oblong-elliptic or ovate to elliptic, 45–95+ × 22–35+ mm. Peduncles 12–25(–40) cm. Calyculi of lanceolate to lance-linear bractlets 6–9 mm. Phyllaries lance-ovate to lanceolate, 9–12 mm. Ray laminae yellow, 20–30+ mm. Disc corollas 3.4–4.4 mm, apices yellow. Cypselae 2.2–2.8 mm, wings ± spreading, ± chartaceous, entire. 2n = 26
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Sandy soils, openings in scrub-oak woodlands, roadsides and other disturbed sites
Elevation: 60–300 m
