Outer phyllaries: chartaceous bases deltate to ovate, 2–5+ mm, herbaceous tips usually spreading to recurved, narrowly triangular to attenuate, 10–20 mm, margins and faces minutely hispidulous to hirtellous.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Desert sandy and rocky sites, dunes, washes
Elevation: 1000–1700 m
