Leaf blades 5–150(–250) × 2–25(–35+) mm. Peduncles 2–5(–15+) cm. Phyllaries (incurved in fruit), abaxial faces glabrous or scabrous to hispid. Cypselae 5–7.5 mm; pappi 0.1–0.5(–1) or 2–5 mm. 2n = 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 (all Europe).


Phenology: Flowering (Mar–)Apr–May(–Aug).
Habitat: Disturbed sites
Elevation: 0–100(–600+) m
