Plants 7–10+ dm. Stems tomentose to pannose. Leaves mostly cauline; blades linear, 5–9(–12+) cm × 3–5(–8+) mm, l/w = 16–32, abaxially tomentose, adaxially densely sericeo-tomentose. Heads in corymbiform arrays. Peduncles 10–60 mm. Involucres ± hemispheric, 8–12 × 7–12 mm. Phyllaries 50–60+ in 5–6+ series, sericeo-tomentose to pannose, including margins, the outer lance-deltate, 1–3 mm, the inner lanceolate, 7–11+ mm, tips acute. Florets 40–50+. Cypselae 3.5–4+ mm; pappi stramineous, outer subulate scales or bristles 20+, 0.6–1.5+ mm, intergrading with 30+, 6–7+ mm inner subulate scales or bristles. 2n = 34.

Habitat: Arroyos, on limestone
Elevation: 800–900 m
