Flowers: corolla glabrous or sparsely white-lanate internally abaxially; pollen sac sides glabrous. 2n = 16.
Phenology: Flowering May–Aug(–Oct).
Habitat: Pinyon-juniper, Gambel oak, ponderosa pine, and spruce-fir woodlands, montane meadows.
Elevation: 1800–3200 m.
Distribution
Ariz., Colo., N.Mex., Tex., Utah, Mexico (Chihuahua).
Discussion
Variety torreyi occurs from the Mogollon Rim northeastward. Some specimens (for example, D. B. Dunn 6155, Torrance County, New Mexico, KANU), which otherwise match var. torreyi, bear anthers with a few straight hairs 0.1–0.2 mm.
