Leaf blades ovate, 4–7 cm, adaxial surface variably pubescent young. Inflorescence branches glabrous. Flowers: hypanthium glabrous.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jun; fruiting Sep–Oct.
Habitat: Brush, roadsides, woodland edges
Elevation: 50–400 m

Discussion

Variety scabrida is widely spread through the range of Crataegus scabrida from Wisconsin to New England and Nova Scotia; it is nearly identical to C. brainerdii except for stamen number. Crataegus improvisa is a form with narrowly rhombic leaves.
