Leaves: blade 1–11 cm wide, 1–2 times denticulate to subcrenate, 5–13-lobed for 1/4–1/2 length, lobes cuneate to subovate, 1 or 2 times denticulate to subcrenulate, margins entire or erose with long bristles to rarely sublaciniate. Inflorescences erect, primary and higher-order branches perpendicular to central axis. Flowers: hypanthium narrowly turbinate-campanulate, portion distal to adnation to ovary marked by conspicuous flaring, 1.8–3.3 × 1.2–2.5 mm, stipitate-glandular proximally; sepals triangular to triangular-ovate, 0.6–1.7 × 0.6–1.2 mm, not as broad as long at apex, apex acute; petals unlobed, 2.5–3.1 mm, ovate and abruptly clawed to ovate-lanceolate and gradually tapering to claw, 1–1.8 mm wide; ovary 4/5+ inferior. Capsules cylindric to cylindric-ovate, 3.2–8 × 1.5–4 mm, beaks ± spreading. Seeds dark red-brown, 0.9–1.7 × 0.3–0.6 mm, main body (excluding winged margins) 0.7–1 mm. 2n = 14.
