Herbage glabrous or puberulent. Stems prostrate, trailing, or strongly twining-climbing, to 250 cm. Leaf blades broadly to narrowly triangular, basal lobes usually ± 2-pointed, rarely rounded, basal sinus acute, rounded, or ± quadrate. Bracts broadly ovate to suborbiculate, (6–)9–15(–20) × 7–13(–16) mm, proximally flat, keeled, or saccate, apex acuminate, emarginate, or obtuse. Flowers: sepals 9–12(–15) mm; corolla (28–)32–44(–52) mm; stamens 18–26 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Oct.
Habitat: Pine woods, rocky slopes, sand dunes.
Elevation: 0–900(–1500) m.
Distribution
Calif., Mexico (Baja California).
Discussion
Subspecies cyclostegia intergrades with Calystegia macrostegia subsp. intermedia, C. macrostegia subsp. macrostegia, and C. purpurata subsp. purpurata.
