Perennials or lianas, [shrubs]. Stems twining-climbing, [trailing], glabrous or hairy [glabrescent]. Leaves petiolate [subsessile]; blade cordate to ovate-cordate [oblong to linear], 20–100 mm, surfaces glabrous or hairy. Inflorescences 2–16-flowered or flowers solitary. Flowers: sepals oblong [ovate to lanceolate], 7–12 mm, sometimes unequal, accrescent in fruit; corolla proximally purplish, distally ± white with greenish bands, campanulate [funnelform or salverform], 25–40[–80] mm, limb entire or 5-toothed; styles 1; stigmas 2, globose. Fruits capsular or nutlike, dry, oblong-ovoid [ellipsoid, fusiform, turbinate], indehiscent. Seeds 1(or 2), ovoid [ellipsoid, fusiform, or globose], hairy.

Distribution

Introduced; Florida, Mexico, West Indies, Central America, South America, Africa, Pacific Islands (New Caledonia), introduced also in Atlantic Islands (Tenerife).
