Stems glabrous or sericeous. Leaves: petiole 3–25(–42) mm; blade reniform to broadly ovate-reniform, (3–)8–30 × (3–)8–30 mm, surfaces: abaxial sparsely sericeous, adaxial glab­rous or sparsely sericeous, or hairs ± patent. Pedicels (3–)5–15 mm, recurved near tips. Flowers: sepals 1.5–2 mm at anthesis, 2–2.5 mm in fruit; corolla greenish to white, 1.5–2(–3) mm. Fruits notably 2-lobed, 2–2.6 × 1.8–2.3 mm, lobes separating, pericarp fragile, shattering irregularly. 2n = 28 (Asia).


Phenology: Flowering Jan–Nov.
Habitat: Abandoned plantings, clay banks, disturbed sites, thickets.
Elevation: 0–500(–1000) m.

Distribution

Calif., Fla., Tex., West Indies, introduced also in Mexico (Nuevo León), Europe, Asia, Africa, Pacific Islands (Hawaii, New Zealand), Australia.

Discussion

Reports of Dichondra micrantha for Arizona, Georgia, and Maryland have not been confirmed.
