Herbs slender, often branched distally, villous, sometimes also strigillose, at least distally. Flowers: buds individually reflexed, without free tips or with apical free tips less than 1 mm; floral tube orange-brown inside, 3–5 mm; petals often with red dots at base, often fading reddish, 3–8 mm; anthers 2.5–5 mm. Capsules 18–60 mm; pedicel 2.5–5 mm. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering Feb–Apr.
Habitat: Rocky slopes, flats.
Elevation: 70–300 m.
Discussion
Subspecies arizonica is known from Yuma County, Arizona, and eastern Imperial County, California. It hybridizes with Chylismia claviformis subspp. peeblesii, rubescens, and yumae.
