Shrubs, 80 dm. Short-shoot leaf blades 4–6 cm, usually drying dark. Inflorescences usually glabrous. Flowers 10–12 mm diam.; styles (2 or)3.

Habitat: Brush
Elevation: 10–200 m

Ark., Del., Kans., Mo., Tenn.
Discussion
Variety palmeri ranges from the Ozark region to Delaware. Crataegus pennypackeri Sargent from Delaware, sometimes treated as distinct, is perhaps no more than a form of C. canbyi.
