Plants 10–80 dm. Leaves persistent; petiole 12–20 mm, pilose, gradually glabrescent; blade elliptic to oblong or oblong-lanceolate, (3–)5–12 × 2–4.5 cm, coriaceous, base rounded to cuneate, margins entire, lateral veins 8–16 pairs, inconspicuous, apex acute or abruptly pointed, surfaces villous along abaxial midvein, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescences with 8 laterals of 1st order, 5–10 cm diam., pendulous in fruit. Pedicels without lenticels. Flowers 5–10 mm diam.; petals suborbiculate, 4–7 mm, glabrous.
Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jun; fruiting Nov–Apr.
Habitat: Bird-sown weed in thickets, open or disturbed forests, beaches, rarely epiphytic
Elevation: 0–150 m
Distribution
Introduced; Wash., Asia (China, Malaysia, North Vietnam, Taiwan), introduced also in Europe, Pacific Islands (Hawaii, New Zealand).
