Plants usually 20–30 cm. Cauline leaf bases cuneate. Heads 1–12. Phyllaries green, oblanceolate or oblong (outer) to linear (inner), subequal, outer scarcely foliaceous, apices acute. 2n = 16, 32, 64.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Openings in montane woods, middle to high elevation grasslands, alpine meadows
Elevation: 1400–3200 m
