Plants 12–70+ cm. Stems proximally piloso-hirsute (hairs 4–6+ mm), distally piloso-hirsute (hairs 4–6+ mm). Leaves: basal 1–4, cauline 6–9; blades oblanceolate to lanceolate, 25–150 × 10–35+ mm, lengths 2.5–5+ times widths, bases cuneate, margins usually entire, apices ± acute, faces piloso-hirsute (hairs 3–5+ mm). Heads 3–25+ in corymbiform to paniculiform arrays. Peduncles piloso-hirsute, stellate-pubescent, and stipitate-glandular. Calyculi: bractlets 10–15+. Involucres campanulate, 8–9(–12) mm. Phyllaries 16–21+, apices acute, abaxial faces piloso-hirsute, stellate-pubescent, and stipitate-glandular. Florets 25–40+; corollas yellow, 5–8 mm. Cypselae columnar, 2.5–4 mm; pappi of 50–60+, white or stramineous bristles in ± 2 series, 5–6 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Jul–Sep.
Habitat: Grasslands, pine forests
Elevation: 2000–2700 m
Distribution
Tex., Mexico, Central America (Guatemala).
