Shrubs or trees, 30–70 dm. Stems: trunk bark cream to cinnamon brown or light gray-brown in patches, in shade darker patches pale tan or olive green, exfoliating with smooth, thin flakes; compound thorns on trunks sometimes present; thorns on twigs determinate. Leaves long-persistent: petiole length 5–30% blade; blade narrowly or broadly spatulate, narrow, 1.5–3 cm, coriaceous, lobes 0 or 1 per side, sinuses ± shallow to deep, venation craspedodromous, veins to lobes and deeper sinuses; blades on extension shoots usually more diverse in shape, larger, more deeply incised. Inflorescences 20–30-flowered; branches glabrous; bracteoles ± caducous, linear, small, membranous to herbaceous, margins usually eglandular, sometimes ± stipuliform. Flowers 10 mm diam.; sepals triangular; stamens 20, anthers pale yellow; styles 3–5. Pomes bright orange-red, orbicular, 3–5 mm diam., matte to glossy; sepal remnants persistent; pyrenes 3–5, dorsally obscurely grooved, sides plane apical quarters exposed.
