Caudices simple or 2–3-branched, 1–3.5 cm diam. Leaves: rosettes 10–25-leaved; blade green, oblanceolate to spatulate, 3–12 × 1–5.5 cm, apex acute to acuminate or cuspidate, surfaces sometimes farinose, glaucous. Inflorescences: floral shoots 5–20-leaved, 5–30 cm; cincinni 3+, 4–10-flowered, mostly 1–6 cm. Petals mostly bright yellow to red, 10–12 × 2–3.5 mm. 2n = 34.


Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer.
Habitat: Cliffs, rocky slopes
Elevation: 0-2700 m

Discussion

A report of subsp. cymosa from southwestern Oregon (J. A. Bartel 1993) is unfounded.
