Basal leaves 3-foliolate; blade 2–10 × 3–15 cm; leaflets petiolulate, deeply lobed. Cauline leaves 3-foliolate; blade 2 × 3 cm; leaflet lobes to 1/2 length of leaflet, distal segments not laciniate. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering May–Aug; fruiting Jul–Oct.
Habitat: Shaded, moist woods
Elevation: 0-1300 m
Distribution
Alta., B.C., Alaska, Calif., Idaho, Mont., Oreg., Wash.
Discussion
Variety trifoliata has slender roots and caudices.
