Flowering stems erect, 25–50 cm. Leaves of basal stems mostly 4-ranked; blade elliptic-lanceolate. Inner sepals elliptic-ovate, apex subacute. Capsules subglobose, shorter than calyx.


Phenology: Flowering summer; fruiting late summer–fall.
Habitat: Sandy soil of open woodlands and fields, usually near coast
Elevation: 0–50 m
