Phyllary apices purplish (variably so in tamalpais region). pappus bristles (38–)46–61.
Phenology: Flowering Jun–Aug.
Habitat: Rocky sites, commonly on serpentine, often in pine or pine-oak woods
Elevation: 600–1400 m
