Stems ascending to decumbent, 5–15(–25) cm, glandular-pubescent. Leaves opposite; blade obovate to oblanceolate, 10–30 × 5–15 mm, base auriculate or clasping, margins denticulate, flat, surfaces sparsely glandular-hairy. Inflorescences axillary, flowers 1 or 2 per axil; bracts 0 mm. Pedicels 2–6 mm; bracteoles 1 or 2, 3–5 mm. Flowers: calyx lobes narrowly triangular, 4.5–6.5 mm; corolla blue-purple or white, 10–13 mm, slightly hairy, lobes 3.4–4 × 2–4 mm; style 5–6 mm. Capsules 5–6 mm; style not persistent. Seeds ovoid, 0.2–0.5 mm.
Phenology: Flowering year-round.
Habitat: Sandbars, moist, sandy disturbed sites.
Elevation: 0–50 m.
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Veracruz).
Discussion
Stemodia schottii is closely related to S. durantifolia and is distinguished by its smaller size and axillary flowers. In Texas, S. schottii is known from counties along the lower Rio Grande and from the Big Bend region.
