Leaves not connate at base, ± linear tapering from base, 5.9–11.3 × 0.3–1.1 mm, 1-veined. Stem and leaf scales absent. Inflorescences: bracts absent. Pedicels 0–0.2 mm in fruit. Flowers usually solitary or 1 pistillate and 1 staminate in an axil; styles reflexed or strongly curved; pollen colorless. Schizocarps 0.8–1.2 × 0.9–1.3 mm, as long as or shorter than wide; mericarps brown or gray-brown, not swollen, winged throughout, wings straight, 0.05–0.1 mm wide, width less than mericarp body.
Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Lakes, pools, ponds, ditches, streams, backwaters.
Elevation: 0–3000 m.
Distribution
Alta., B.C., Nfld. and Labr. (Nfld.), Ont., Sask., Ariz., Colo., Idaho, Minn., Mont., N.Mex., Oreg., Utah, Wyo.
Discussion
Callitriche stenoptera most closely resembles C. fassettii and C. hermaphroditica but is distinguished from them by the fruit on which the wing is less than 0.1 mm wide, even at the fruit apex.
