Involucral gland appendages absent or rudimentary. Staminate flowers 10–20. Capsules 1.5–2 × 2–3 mm. Seeds 1.6–1.7 × 0.9–1.2 mm. 2n = 12.
Phenology: Flowering and fruiting midsummer–early fall.
Habitat: Sand barrens, riverbanks, disturbed sandy or gravelly areas.
Elevation: 500–1500 m.
Distribution
N.Mex., Tex., Mexico (Chihuahua).
Discussion
Variety wheeleriana is known in the flora area from south-central New Mexico and western trans-Pecos Texas.
