Trees [shrubs]; rhizomes absent. Branches and leaves opposite. Inflorescences capitula; bracts 4, well developed, petaloid, subtending inflorescence but not enclosing it over winter, 2 pairs of scalelike bracts enclosing inflorescence over winter. Pedicels absent. Drupes within inflorescence fused into a syncarp; stone apex pointed.

Introduced; Asia.
