Phenology: Flowering from Mar–Jul.
Habitat: Oak woodlands and forests, grasslands, sandy soils.
Elevation: 10–150 m.

Discussion

Variety pilosissima occurs from east-central to south Texas, whereas var. mercurialina is widely distributed. Both varieties appear to prefer sandy soils.
