Plants, erect, 1–2 m; burl present. Leaf blades gray-glaucous, dull. 2n = 26, 52.
Phenology: Flowering winter–early spring.
Habitat: Chaparral on desert edges
Elevation: 1300-1600 m
Discussion
Subspecies desertica is found in the Santa Rosa Mountains and inner Peninsular Range of Riverside and San Diego counties.
