Shrubs or trees, 0.5–10 m. Buds alba-type. Leaves: stipules on late ones rudimentary or foliaceous; largest medial blade 1.7–4 times as long as wide, adaxial surface not glaucous. Staminate flowers: filaments glabrous or hairy. Pistillate flowers: adaxial nectary shorter than stipe; stipe 2–6 mm; ovary short-silky; stigmas cylindrical, 0.32–0.44–0.64 mm.

North America, Asia.
