Trees, to 15(-20) m, with solitary trunks. Leaves: petiole (2-)3-5(-8) mm. Leaf blade 50-120(-140) × (20-)25-60 mm. Acorns: cup very shallowly saucer-shaped and flat abaxially and adaxially to shallowly cup-shaped with constricted bases, 2-5 mm deep × (9-)10-15(-20) mm wide, enclosing 1/4 nut or less; nut subrotund to ovoid or elliptic, 12-15(-18) × 8-12(-17) mm.
Phenology: Flowering spring.
Habitat: Low wet areas, hummocks, riparian and limestone bluffs and prairies
Elevation: 0-400 m
